Organization of the Week: Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society, Inc.

Every Monday, I highlight a non-profit related to history or the arts, a historical society, preservation group or friends group whose main objective is to promote the historical and artistic history of New Jersey.

This week, I am featuring the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society, Inc. The Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society Inc., provides programs designed to benefit the community, mineral collectors, and others interested in the minerals, mineralogy and geology of the Franklin-Ogdensburg area of New Jersey.

Yearly, the Society holds seven scheduled meetings and field trips. They produce a newsletter entitled "The Picking Table," which is issued twice a year in the spring and fall. The Mineralogical Society also works in partnership with the Sterling Hill Mining Museum in Ogdensburg, New Jersey. The mining museum benefits from the donation of volunteer time, talents, materials for site upkeep, and collections of mining equipment, memorabilia, rocks, and minerals.

The Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society, Inc. and the Sterling Hill Mining Museum rely on memberships, fundraising, and countless volunteers to continue its mission.
