Saturday, January 5 - North Plainfield, Somerset County
The Fleetwood Museum of Art and Photographica is pleased to present an exhibition, "Dependent on Chance: The Magic of Smoke Trails" by Vivian S. Bedoya. The exhibition features abstract photographs created by photographing smoke. The images, ethereal formations rendered in both color and black and white, are stunning examples of this arduous photographic process. This unique exhibition is on view through the end of January.
Ms. Bedoya is a writer and photographer residing in Somerset County. She currently has four works of art in the Gallery 27/7 Art on Traffic Control Boxes throughout Somerset County.

Sunday, January 6 - Montclair, Essex County
The Bergen County Historical Society's Twelfth Night Party
In olden times, festivities surrounding Twelfth Night were the most lavish of the year, featuring a great feast with bonfires, plays, music, dancing, and wassailing. The ancient custom of wassailing involved making twelve fires of straw and drinking toasts of cider or ale. A mock king, called the King of Beans, or Lord of Misrule, was elected by lot: The guest who discovered a bean in his or her slice of Twelfth Night Cake was elected sovereign for the revelries. In some places, these kings and queens placed white crosses in the rafters to exclude hobgoblins, witches and bugs for the remainder of the year. Join the Bergen County Historical Society on Sunday from 2:00 - 5:00 pm as they celebrate Twelfth Night. The event takes place in Campbell-Christie House at Historic New Bridge Landing, 1201 Main Street, River Edge, NJ 07661. You could be King or Queen for a day if you find the bean. Molly's Twelfth Night Party
Molly Shultz, who bequeathed her home and contents to the Montclair Historical Society, loved to throw a party on the 12th night of Christmas. Join the Society on Sunday from 4:00 - 6:00 pm as they celebrate in her honor, in her home with her own holiday ware and antique toy collection. Wine and wassail will be served. Owners of three different Lambertville homes previously on the society's Autumn House Tour will present personal experiences with a major home renovation. Panel members will address the high and low points of their projects, as well as their dos and don'ts for attempting a restoration or upgrade to an older house. Photos and plans of their projects will be shared. An audience question and answer session will follow.
