Every Monday, I highlight a non-profit related to history or the arts, a historical society, preservation group or friends group whose main objective is to promote the historical and artistic history of New Jersey.
This week, I am featuring the New Jersey Historical Commission. The mission of the New Jersey Historical Commission is to enrich the lives of the public by preserving the historical record and advancing interest in and awareness of New Jersey's past. The New Jersey Historical Commission is a state agency within the Department of State. All of its grant funding is provided by legislative appropriation.
The New Jersey Historical Commission offers General Operating Support Grants, Project grants and Mini-grants to support a variety of programs and activities related to New Jersey history. The Commission also offers academic prizes for papers and free archival evaluation services for museums and historical groups through the Caucus Archival Projects Evaluation Service or CAPES. The General Operating Support Grants fund many historic sites and programs throughout New Jersey.
For information about programs sponsored by the New Jersey Historical Commission, please visit http://www.nj.gov/state/historical/index.html or call 609-292-6062.
If you are a member of a non-profit organization or know of one that you would like to see featured on this site, please let us know in the comments or send an e-mail to kelly@thehistorygirl.com.
