Every Monday, I will now highlight a non-profit related to history or the arts, a historical society, preservation group or friends group whose main objective is to promote the historical and artistic history of New Jersey.
This week, the Delaware & Raritan Canal Watch is being featured. The Delaware & Raritan Canal Watch's mission is: To protect, maintain, and promote the recreational, historical, aesthetic, and environmental qualities of the Delaware & Raritan Canal State Park and its environs, and to assist and to support regional, state, local, and private enterprise efforts which contribute to this goal.
The Canal Watch sponsors walks along the canal and holds an annual meeting each June with a program. Events sponsored by the Canal Watch have included picnics, lectures, night walks, bike trips, and canoe trips. The Canal Watch also participates in trail clearing and maintenance, help with the beautification and promotion of the Trenton sections of the canal, stream monitoring, and nature education.
