On Saturday, visit Historic Longstreet Farm in Holmdel and stop by the out kitchen to see what’s cooking on the wood-fired stove. Discover how recipes, cooking techniques and kitchens have changed since the 1890s. This free events run from 11:00 am - 3:30 pm.
From 1:00 noon - 3:00 pm, tap your feet, dance a one-step, or sing-along to popular turn-of-the-19th-century ballads as they are played on our farmhouse piano.

Smocking Demonstration
View the lost art of smocking, a decorative embroidery or shirring made by gathering cloth in regularly spaced round tucks. Years ago children’s clothing had this decorative embroidery. This free event run from 1:00 - 3:00 pm.

Children Friendly
Farmers invite you to join a local farmer as he demonstrates handling and milking a farm cow. Learn about cow breeds, milk and cream production, history, and more! In the farmhouse, you can also help make cheese and butter, before churning and tasting a batch of old-fashioned ice cream.
A children’s craft program will be available from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm for a small materials fee.
The site is open from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm.
Please note that all 2022 programs will be modified to encourage social distancing and reflect current State guidelines for public events. Visitors are required to carry masks at all times, and wear them when social distancing isn't possible.

History of Double Trouble
You are invited to join the Lacey Township Historical Society in welcoming Andrew Anderson Resource Interpretive Specialist from Double Trouble Village State Historic Site.
The program will be held on Saturday at 7:00 pm at the Old Schoolhouse Museum 126 South Main Street (Rt 9), Forked River.
Discover this true natural gem in our backyard with pure cedar water, trails, and much more. Double Trouble Village has a long and storied history that dates to the colonial era when prized Atlantic White Cedar was milled for shipbuilding, boxes, siding, and roofing shingles. A new industry emerged during the Civil War with the planting of cranberry bogs. Through dramatic slides and stories, witness this evolution and learn how the village received such a unique name.
Our guest speaker is award-winning historian and author Andrew Anderson, Resource Interpretive Specialist for Double Trouble Village State Historic Site. Underground Railroad Trolley Tour
On Saturday at 9:30 am, join the Center for Community Arts (CCA) Community History Committee on a trolley tour of the places where escaped slaves sought refuge and help to continue their journeys to freedom. Hear how legendary anti-slavery fighter, Harriet Tubman, walked these streets, as did prominent railroad businessman and former slave, Stephen Smith, whose railroad cars carried hundreds to freedom. The trolley travels through parts of Cape May and West Cape May, with stops along the way, including the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Board the trolley at the Washington Street Mall information booth at Ocean Street for this tour. Admission is $25 per adult and $15 per child (ages 3-12).
