Author Apara Mahal Sylvester Book Signing Day

Apara Mahal Sylvester will be signing John’s Best Day Ever (a train book) at Northlandz on Saturday, talking about her process for writing her books and will even be doing a few readings of John’s Best Day Ever throughout the day. This event runs from 1:00 - 4:00 pm.

Apara Mahal Sylvester is a famous author living in New Jersey. Her most recent publications are children’s books. Her other children’s books are Cranky Frankie and The Lost Duck, Charlie The Baseball Cat, Lucy’s Way Home, and The Angel Tree

Evening Livestock Chores
Children Friendly Event

Bring your boots and work gloves, because between 5:00 and 8:00 pm you’ll be learning just what it takes to keep farm animals...by picking up a pitchfork and doing evening chores! Help farmers feed and water the animals, bring in the sheep from the pasture, collect eggs in the henhouse, grind corn in the barn, scrub and fill water tubs, and clean the horses’ stalls for tomorrow’s breakfast.

Please note that all 2021 Saturday programs will be modified to encourage social distancing and reflect current State guidelines for public events. Visitors are required to carry masks at all times, and wear them when social distancing isn't possible.

Discovery Family Fun at the Museum of Early Trades and Crafts

Join METC for a Discovery Family Fun day on Saturday from 1:00 - 4:00 pm! The day-long indoor/outdoor event includes mini tours of the new exhibit, hands-on crafts in our Education Annex, exploring the fascinating art of solagraph photography, playing games on the METC lawn, digging into some archaeology, and musical entertainment from Popsical School of Performance! Children Friendly Site & Event

On Saturday, visit Historic Longstreet Farm in Holmdel and stop in the farmhouse to hear melodies from the 1890s played on the accordion. This free events run from 1:00 - 3:00 pm.

From 12:00 noon - 3:00 pm, take pleasure in observing the carpenter demonstrating his mastery of woodworking using an assortment of traditional carpentry hand tools.

Christmas in July at the Van Bunschooten Museum

The DAR Chinkchewunska Chapter presents "Christmas in July" at the Van Bunschooten Museum on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm each day. This event is an annual “open house” and also our main fund raiser to help maintain our museum. Our historic house, listed on both the State and National Registers, will be decorated for Christmas by our Chapter’s Members and open for complimentary tours by our Period Costumed Docents. Our house is a wonderful example of a Dutch Colonial style home circa 1787, filled with original pieces from the VanBunschooten and Cooper families, as well as many items of local historical interest including a Charleville musket carried in the American Revolutionary War. The event also features Attic Treasurers Sale, Food and Bake Sale, historical reenactors, a silent auction, and more! The DAR Van Bunschooten Museum is located at 1097 Route 23, Wantage, NJ. Yarn Bee
Ages 10+

Whether starting a new hobby or working on an old project, all are welcome to this gathering on Saturday at Historic Longstreet Farm in Holmdel! The relaxed atmosphere means no pressure - you can knit or crochet at your own pace, and farm staff will be on hand to assist those wanting to learn a new skill. Bring your own supplies or borrow ours for the session. Open to ages 10 and up; under 18 with adult. The cost is $5 per person; cash or check only. This event run from 12:00 noon - 2:30 pm.

Farmer Jim and his crew will use a "hit and miss" engine to churn gallons of ice cream in the shade of a maple tree...while live music by the Jugtown Mountain String Band, kids’ games, and farmhouse tours add to the fun on the front lawn. Ice cream, surrey rides, and a children's craft are available for purchase.

The site is open from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm.
