Offering Virtual Tours of Physick House Museum, Cape May Lighthouse

Cape May MAC (Museums+Arts+Culture), previously known as the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC), announces that its tours, activities and events have been cancelled until further notice, in view of the continuing effect of COVID-19 restrictions on travel to the Cape May region and on the organization’s operations.

“We view the safety and wellbeing of our visitors, staff, volunteers, and business partners as the highest priority as we all respond to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Director and CEO Jody Alessandrine. “We look forward to resuming our regular schedule of tours, activities and events once we can safely open our doors to the public in good conscience. Cape May will be surely ready for visitors when that time comes.”

Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC) announces name change to ‘Cape May MAC (Museums+Arts+Culture)’ as cornerstone of organization’s new brand

The Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC) announces that beginning March 27 and culminating with a new website on April 1, the organization will launch a new brand that includes a new name, logo, and website.

Part of its 50th anniversary year celebration, MAC announces its new name “Cape May MAC (Museums+Arts+Culture)” March 27 and will continue to launch elements of the new brand in the subsequent days, culminating in the launch of the organization’s new website on April 1.

Classical Greece and Rome were part of the popular culture of Revolutionary America just as they were in Elizabethan England when Shakespeare wrote Julius Caesar. We’ll consider the resonance of this play in the Elizabethan era as Shakespeare’s contemporaries considered the loss of a long-reigning monarch and again in the Revolutionary War as General Washington eschewed a potential military dictatorship in favor of civilian rule by Congress. This program begins a series of play discussions in conjunction with author Ian Doescher's Shakespeare 2020 Project. The program begins at 10:30 am. Free admission. P.T. Barnum, the Master Showman

Neill Hartley portrays master showman P.T. Barnum in this exciting and entertaining look at one of the most colorful and well-known personalities of all time, who brought high and low culture to all of America.

A brilliant and shameless promoter, Barnum gave the wise public of the 19th-century shameless hucksterism, peerless spectacle, and everything in between -- enough entertainment to earn the title "master showman" a dozen times over. Barnum weathered accusations of fraud with the attitude that there was no such thing as bad press, and he became one of the richest men in America. Audiences will watch his fame grow with a parade of freaks and oddities from “The Fejee Mermaid,” the tiny General Tom Thumb to Jumbo the elephant and then share his crowning success: “The Greatest Show on Earth!

Following the performance, there is a short informational section about the history of the circus, and of P.T Barnum’s life outside of the entertainment world, including a short reading from his book “The Art of Money Getting.” A question and answer will conclude the presentation.

This event will be held from 7:30 - 9:00 pm. Tickets are $20 per person. Seating is limited! You must pre-register for this event.
