Lacey Historical Society’s Flea Market

Lacey Historical Society’s Flea Market returns on Friday Saturday. Sales open both days at 8:00 am and continue to 3:00 pm. You never know what you’ll find at the flea market! The event takes place in front of the Lacey Old Schoolhouse Museum, 126 South Main Street, Forked River, NJ, right next door to Mrs. Walker’s Ice Cream Parlor. Old-fashioned Independence Day Celebration at Millbrook Village
Family Friendly Event

Celebrate the 243rd anniversary of our independence at the 15th Annual Independence Day Celebration at Millbrook Village in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm. Join the townsfolk in the parade down Main Street at 1:00 pm and gather at the green in front of the general store for a patriotic speech given by one of our local celebrities.

Make a hat and a flag, bring your tin whistle or drum, wear you patriotic clothes and enjoy yourself. Got an instrument? Bring it along and help liven things up.

Enter the water melon eating contest after the parade for some refreshing fun. Everyone is invited to the frolic; kids of all ages are welcome!

There will be lots of things going on throughout the village all day. Old time games for the kids and tours of the village and demonstrations all around town. You'll find it fun and interesting.

Bring a picnic lunch and relax in the shade for a spell. Meet a new friend, learn about our history and take in the experience of a quieter time.

The event is presented by the Millbrook Village Society in cooperation with the National Park Service. The event will be held rain or shine. Food is not available at the site, so plan accordingly. Restroom and picnic facilities are available.

This event us FREE. Millbrook Village is part of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Vintage Base Ball in Princeton

Calling all baseball-lovers and history-buffs: the Historical Society of Princeton will present its annual 19th century "base ball" game on Saturday starting at 11:00 am at Greenway Meadows Park, 275 Rosedale Road, Princeton, NJ. The event is free and open to all; spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

Part game, part show, part history lesson and ALL fun, the Flemington Neshanock and Diamond State Base Ball Club will play a competitive match of bare-handed baseball, wearing period uniforms and using rules from 1864 or 1873. On Saturday, visit Historic Longstreet Farm in Holmdel to see what is cooking on the woodstove in the out kitchen. Discover how food, receipts, cooking techniques, and the kitchen itself has changed since the 1890s. This free event runs from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm.

The Whitesbog Blueberry Festival is back for its 36th year! Please join us as we celebrate the blueberry in a family (and dog!) friendly, country fair atmosphere. As always, blueberries will be the star of the show. Enjoy fresh, locally made blueberry pies, donuts, muffins, fritters and more from the bake shop. Fresh blueberries will be available for purchase by the pint, case, or to pick your own. White Dotte will be offering Blueberry Cheesecake Ice Cream ! For those who want to try growing their own berries, visit our plant sale, located in front of the General Store.

Civil War Encampment at Batsto!
Children Friendly Site & Event

The Batsto Citizens Committee, Inc. will host a Civil War encampment at historic Batsto Village featuring the 12th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry (12th NJVI), Company K, on Saturday. The 12th NJVI will set up their camp near the entrance to historic Batsto Village and be on the site from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm.

Visitors to the site will have the opportunity to walk through the encampment and interact with these dedicated and knowledgeable reenactors whose mission is to preserve the heritage & sacrifices of our veterans who fought and lived through the dramatic times of 1862 to 1865. The original 12th New Jersey regiment; organized at Camp Stockton in Woodbury, New Jersey in 1862, fought in every major battle beginning with The Battle of Chancellorsville (VA) in 1863.

The only three-year regiment composed entirely of men from the southern counties of New Jersey, the 12th NJVI played an important role at the Battle of Gettysburg (PA) and in 1886 a monument was dedicated to them at Gettysburg National Military Park.

There is no cost to visit the encampment. Summer parking of $5.00/car is in effect at the village until Labor Day at Batsto Village.

The Batsto Mansion; home of the Richards family for 92 years and later owned by Philadelphia Quaker industrialist Joseph Wharton, will be open for tours throughout the day for a charge of $3.00 / person. The “Big House on the Hill” is a remarkable structure with its beginnings in the late 1700s.

A blacksmith will be on hand to demonstrate the art of shaping iron into useful items and explain how you can learn this unique and interesting skill at Batsto Village.

The Nature Center will be open with science and nature exhibits and special activities for children.

Batsto is located in the Pinelands of Burlington County, South Jersey approximately 7 miles east of Hammonton on Route 542 and about 15 miles west of Exit 50 on the Garden State Parkway. The horseless carriage comes to Historic Walnford with these shining examples of pre-WWII automobiles displayed across our shady lawn, weather permitting. Admire these automobiles all made over 70 years ago and imagine when life in the fast lane never hit 50 mph. This free event runs from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm.
