Every Monday, I highlight a non-profit related to history or the arts, a historical society, preservation group or friends group whose main objective is to promote the historical and artistic history of New Jersey.
This week, I am featuring the Somerset County Cultural and Heritage Commission. The Somerset County Cultural and Heritage Commission administers programs and services that preserve, promote and protect the culture and heritage of Somerset County. The office's activities enhance the quality of life, economic development, community revitalization, growth of cultural-heritage tourism and enhanced educational experiences for residents of all ages.
The Commission sponsors "Weekend Journey Through the Past" each October. Since 2005, between twenty and thirty historic sites across the county open their doors to visitors in one weekend.
For information and listings of events sponsored by the Somerset County Cultural and Heritage Commission, please visit www.co.somerset.nj.us/publicworks/cultural or call 908-231-7110.
If you are a member of a non-profit organization or know of one that you would like to see featured on this site, please let us know in the comments or send an e-mail to kelly@thehistorygirl.com.
