The organization was instrumental in persuading elected officials from building a bypass in the 1950s that would have passed in front of the historic Steuben House. Among their other achievements was the preservation and relocation of the Demarest House in 1956, the Westervelt-Thomas Barn relocation project in 1958, and in cooperation with the County of Bergen, the Campbell-Christie House relocation in 1977. They erected a working replica Dutch Out-Kitchen in 1991 and an outhouse in 2009. The Society opens all three historic homes, including the State Historic Site, and the outbuildings for tours during special events throughout the year. The Society is in the midst of a fundraising project to build a permanent environmentally-controlled museum building on the property.
