Organization of the Week: Nathanael Greene Homestead Association

Every Monday, I highlight a non-profit related to history or the arts, a historical society, preservation group or friends group whose main objective is to promote the historical and artistic history of the United States.

This week, I am featuring the Nathanael Greene Homestead Association in Coventry, Rhode Island. Founded in 1919, the Nathanael Greene Homestead Association owns and maintains the circa-1770 homestead that was originally built by Revolutionary War Major General Nathanael Greene. Since its original purchase, the Homestead Association has restored the structure to its late eighteenth century appearance by removing later additions. The Association also cares for the family cemetery located on the grounds and is in the process of clearing and restoring the surrounding woodlands to their period appearance.

The Nathanael Greene Homestead Association relies on memberships, fundraising, and countless volunteers to continue its mission. For more information on programs, special events, and exhibits hosted by the Nathanael Greene Homestead Association or to become a member or volunteer, please call 401-821-8630 or visit www.nathanaelgreenehomestead.org.

If you are a member of a non-profit organization or know of one that you would like to see featured on this site, please let us know in the comments or send an e-mail to kelly@thehistorygirl.com.
